Everest to Rolwaling Trek via Tashi Labsta Pass

This stretch of the Great Himalaya Trail Upper Trail makes for an amazing trek, combining the classic Everest Base Camp trail with the Cho La pass to the stunning Gokyo Lakes and the challenging Tashi Labsta into Rolwaling.

The views on the Everest Base Camp trail are simply unbeatable, with the mighty Himalayas towering high above you. While this trail is getting more visitors by the year, numbers drop while going to Gokyo, and on the trail to the Tashi Labsta you will hardly find any tourists.

Gokyo Ri (5357 m) offers incredible views of the turquoise Gokyo Lakes, impressive glaciars and the impressive Himalayas, among which Mt Everest (8848 m) and Cho Oyo (8188 m).

Crossing the high pass of Tashi Labsta (5755 m) is a real challenge. The trail is sometimes hard to find, and a guide who knows the pass is indispensable for this part of the trek! Besides mountain equipment, like ice ax, ropes and crampons are a must. Those who prefer to do the rest of the trek without a guide, can find guides and equipment in Thame.

The Tashi Labsta brings you into the countryside of Rolwaling, with small villages surrounded by agricultural terraces; quite a contrast with the first part of the trek.
